hi! I am on a Mac computer and I installed python and pygame, but when I clic on main.py to start playing, it opens the file but I'm not sure what to do from here, as its not letting me play and I'm unsure if I have to import it somewhere or open it with something else. What should I do?

just double click the exe if you downloaded the release, if it is only .py files you downloaded the source code version which you should only use if you are not on Windows.

If you are on Windows, simply double click on the .exe file to play. If you arent on Windows make sure you download the source version, then install Python 3, and finally install Pygame via 'pip install pygame' in the terminal. You can then run main.py with python and it will work

For some reason, after a patrol, my cats completely disappear from the clan but not the list, and when I timeskip, they're back. Is this supposed to happen? If so, how long until they return?
This is intended! It's meant to show that they're still out on patrol (and keep them from going on two in the same moon). They return once the next moon comes.
I'd love to be able to assign apprentices to warriors during their training. It'd be cool if you could edit names for cats who share the same prefix. I cannot wait to see what else comes for this lovely little game. I've been hooked ever since I found out about it! :D This game is wonderful, keep up the good work!
If you're interested, there is a way to (fairly easily) edit cat names in the files! There should be a folder right by the application called "saves", and within that is a file called "(clan name)cats". You can open this file with Excel, LibreOffice, and even Notepad. There will be a lot of info in there (which requires this guide to really understand, but it lets you customize your cats in all sorts of ways), but you'll see their names there. It will show as Prefix:Suffix for all cats, regardless of rank. To edit them, just change the prefix and suffix to whatever you'd like, though keep in mind that kits, apprentices, and leaders will need a suffix there (though I suppose it's possible for them not to have one and just have a prefix? hm). Just make sure you save afterwards and you should be good to go! <3

yeah, that is Apple being Apple, there may be some setting you have to change to allow third party software, but idk I have never used Mac OS. In response to the website question: It is possible I'm sure, but probably pretty hard to get something made with Pygame to work in a browser.

downloaded fine and was working before the update, but now errors when trying to make a new clan and when i close the error it force exits, it says something about unhandled exceptions, it also had the same error when changing settings (let same sex cats/unmated cats have offspring)

Sorry for bothering you! Is there a way to play this on a browser? I can't run the game because i'm missing a dll file (even though i clearly have it).
that is very based btw, but i think the only solution here is to either 'upgrade' Windows or I can try to use an older version of python and build the game with that to see if that works for you. Edit: might take me a bit though, since i would have to spin up a Windows VM for that
normally it should work without Python installed, and I also don't recommend downloading DLL files since they are not official and could be malicious. You could try installing Python 3.9 and if that doesnt work then do one of the two fixes
Thanks! I have some Linux machines I could build it on, but I figured that there probably wouldn't be big enough demand for a Linux copy to warrant finding out what happened to my extra monitors and keyboards doing so. I did use Pyinstaller for the windows version

You can use something called Wine. It may require you to use the terminal (just run 'wine ClanGen-july-7.exe' in the same folder as the exe, or you might just be able to double click it like normal, not sure if wine on Mac does that. https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/macosx/download.html
I'd like to edit cat's names sometimes (like when it names 5 of them Shadepaw) but it's in an excel spreadsheet and I don't have a microsoft office subscription. Do you think you could change this in a future update? Like, put it in a txt instead? I don't know much about coding, sorry.
Hello, The format it saves it as (csv) is not actually an excel spreadsheet, a lot of computers just default to opening it in excel You can right click on the file and open with notepad if you want to, or you can install a free excel alternative like LibreOffice calc

Hi, I'm really interested in this game and fan edit. I wanted to play around with the .py files (I'm an absolute python beginner), but when I open the folder, there is only an exe.
I understand how to convert .py to .exe but I am a little confused on how/if you can revert them. If you do not know either, that is fine! :)
**Edit: it would be absolutely amazing if you could just send me the py files to examine, but please no pressure, I've seen the number of files that went into the original! ;)

Nothing is workingg , I've attempted at downloading this about 20 times and nothing. I have so many files now. I've downloaded Python and pygame too.
If you have installed Python and pygame you should be able to run main.py directly with Python and it will work

Are you having a problem when you try running main.py? You may need to run 'pip install pygame' in your terminal if you have not already.

It is quite often flagged as a virus, you might want to check to see if there is a dropdown menu on the download message
