Welcome to the ClanGen itch.io page! ClanGen is a game that lets you generate a Clan and then follow their story as it unfolds, perhaps influencing some of their decisions along the way. With, quite literally, millions of unique cat appearances to generate, multiple biomes and camps to live within, and hundreds of events to discover, ClanGen is full of possibilities! What will your Clan look like?

Does this game run on Mac/Linux/Windows 7: Yes; thank you to Blackfur and Shou for developing those releases.
Does this game run on Android/Mobile: No it does not, and the only software libraries I found for converting pygame to mobile use python 2, while this game uses python 3. Until those are updated to python 3, there will not be any mobile releases of ClanGen.

Help, I am getting (insert error here): Unfortunately it can be hard to troubleshoot based on the errors, again, I would advise joining the discord where you can share screenshots and get a faster response time.
My computer flagged this as a virus?: That's probably a safe move by the computer; this is an executable file that is not, in the scheme of things, very commonly downloaded. But this file is safe. You might have to play around with your antivirus or security settings to allow it to download; usually if you hit something along the lines of 'more information' it will allow you to proceed.
How do I download this: Download the Release zip file from itch.io (you may have to scroll down) for the proper operating system. Find where that downloaded, and right click to extract all the files. Once it is extracted, you need to run the file called Clangen.exe. If the only file named main you see is main.py, you somehow got the source code instead of the release, try downloading it again. If it gives an error and won't open, make sure that you have extracted it before trying to open.
Do I need the 64 or 32 bit version: Most Windows 10 and all Windows 11 computers use 64 bit. If that doesn't work for you, try the 32 bit. You can check to be certain following these instructions.

I've been trying to update my clangen. Every time it gets stuck on loading at 55.6 percent. How can I fix this?
it might be a file you have thats not going through... i don't know how to fix it, but i had the same problem (mine was at 78.2%) and i was fishing arounds so i don't know what i did but when i tryed again it worked!
this is probably your antivirus interfering with the update! see the most recent devlog post regarding antivirus issues. You might also need to redownload the game

No sadly, it's not compatible with mobile devices like what it said in the texts above. You can do the online version, though! But it's not updated to the newer versions.
I downloaded this on a chromebook so I downloaded Linux too to make it work but it keeps doing this everytime I try to lanuch it.

Hi! I play lifegen and I love it! I know I write a ton of comments, but I just realized this and I hope someone knows what it is. In the picture below, what is going on? It just started happening and I'm confused.
That's a cat fading away! Over time all cats in Starclan fade away after 200 moons. You can turn this off in settings if you'd like. Hope this helps :3

Hey i just tryed to forcefeed my computer clan gen but this keeps popping up, and i also am on ASUS laptop at the moment... and i downloaded the third option, is it just i need to download another one? I am so confused but i need to play this awesome game! I tryed the online version but i want to play the way more awesome version!
It seems like the file was deleted. It did that for me when it was deleted on accident. I just reloaded
have you tried win64? or the windows 10 version? (or as the other person said the file might be deleted)

Hey!!! I had the same issue and it took me THREE HOURS to troubleshoot despite seemingly doing everything correct. I tried the steps over and over and over, but EVENTUALLY the only way I got the game working was by downloading the itch.io desktop app AND THEN downloading ClanGen from there. When I switched to that method it only took me 1-2 tries. Hope this helps!!!

Really wanted to download this again!!- But my computer absolutelyyyy hates it, I tried following the devlog but it refuses to let me restore the file and protect it from my antivirus T,T
You can go to your windows security and force-allow it on your device, I did that.
can you tell me how to force-allow it? I've been trying foreveeeeeeeeer. Like the last 2 weeks!
So you open your settings. Then you go to security/privacy. There you can do a scan that will show all threats. The lifegen/clangen is classified as a trojan virus. There is a bar next to it that says Allow on device, and Don't Allow on device. That is how you do it on windows. Good luck!

You can search up lifegen, it is the same download as clangen
but then game crashed and said that it was a virus 😑

I love warrior cats,and I’ve always wanted to make a clan of my own, I did and my clan’s name is lunar clan
I finally got the game open (Tysm) but now it won't let me switch clans. I had been playing for a while and it let me switch clans and now this pops up everytime I want to switch clans
And then it closes lifegen. I re-downloaded, restarted my device, and checked my virus protection (it allowed it). Ever since the update there have been problems.
any chance you could join the discord to ask about this, or report the bug on github? I've not seen this before

I don't think I can really report it without more information on the issue unfortunately. and I definitely can't report modded bugs, so if you're playing lifegen then I can't do much about it at all
Okay, I did figure it out though. I don't know what I did....I deleted ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of the files and then reloaded like fifty times. I figured it out, though I don't know how.... lol XD
I've played clangen and lifegen. Lifegen just came out with a new update that makes it unable for me to access it. I tried to download again and I extracted the files, but the game file won't pop up. What do I do?

Online version is pretty far behind the downloadable version unfortunately. So that's why there's not as many features

The linked website doesn't seem to work on my pc (A Lenovo Thinkstation) and I was wondering why? I was going to download the app regardless but it's laggy and doesn't fit on the screen nor function correctly. Fullscreen makes it worse!

for some reason I can't find the red install button{am on Mac} can't include pic bcuz idk how to take pics

I have Clangen on an pc, but recently started using another one, I copied all the files and put them on a bluetooth. The files were already extracted when I copied them and when I opened the game my data was not there. If I extract the files on the bluetooth will the data be there or will they will always be stuck on the other computer?
Are you sure you moved your save files, and not your game files? Game files by themselves won't transfer your saves.
I might sound dumb but... Wich are the save files and wich are the game files?

Game files are in the folder you downloaded Clangen with, I believe (or accessed through right click > show package contents if you're on mac)
Save files are in your data directory, accessed through the button in your game settings
So, If I copy the data on the bluetooth what do I do next?

this might be your antivirus eating the exe- see the devlog post relating to antivirus issues
To run it on Linux you download, unpack the first .zip and the .tar.gz file, then run ./Clangen in the main directory.
To run on Chromebooks you can go into your Developer settings, enable Linux, and then follow the above instructions though your mileage may vary if you can't understand where your ~/Downloads directory lives

You can also use the website, instead of complaining that it might be a version or two behind please give some money (€1-5) to the developers to help give them the resources to keep your fan game going.

I can't seem to access the exe file or deport it. I have no idea if it is a glitch or not, just hope it can be fixed but if it can't it is probably just my computer acting up.
I would love to download the game as long as it is not marked as a virus, usually i would ignore the warning but if it is called a trojan virus i am not very keen on ignoring that one...I hope that this might be fixed soon!
It is a false flag; the file is safe and the game is open source- you can go through the code yourself if you want to.
